What's it all about?
The National Eucharistic Revival, initiated by the US Catholic Bishops, is a movement that seeks to renew the Church by enkindling a living relationship with Jesus Christ in the Eucharist. This movement is not a program or something we can manufacture but rather the work of the Holy Spirit.
Why Now?
The short answer is that the Church needs healing, and the world needs Jesus. Scandal, division, disease, and doubt - the Church has withstood each of these throughout history. But today, we confront all of them, all at once. Our response at this moment is critical. Some sobering statistics supporting why now include:
- Only 31% of Catholics know and believe in the Eucharist
- Only 39% of Catholics attend Mass weekly
- Less than 50% of adults belong to a church or congregation
- -10,776 decrease in priests since 2000
- 12 million+ individuals have had serious thoughts of suicide during the last year in the US
The time is now! For each of us, this is an invitation and call back to the heart of our faith so that we can be vessels of Christ among our families, friends, neighbors, coworkers, and parish community.
What can we do at the parish and what can I do personally?
The Eucharistic Revival is national in scale but local and right now we are in the year of parish revival. What can we do at St. B’s to spark this Revival? What can I do personally? Each of us can close our eyes and picture that loved one – the one who has walked away from the faith or may have never known the Lord. The Revival exists to equip YOU to reach that person. How? A good first step is to meet people where they are.
Four Pillars
With that in mind, the Eucharistic Revival can’t be a one size fits all movement. Instead, there are four pillars which allow for a more diverse expression of this Eucharistic Revival. Those pillars are:
- Personal Encounters: Bring your people to Jesus
- Reinvigorating Devotion: Receive Jesus. Worship Jesus
- Deepening Formation: Learn and preach the truth about Jesus
- Missionary Sending: Go out and bring Jesus to the world
