What is CGS - Catechesis of the Good Shepherd?

The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) is an exciting and unique approach to the faith formation of children. It uses Montessori educational principles rooted in scripture, Liturgy and prayer, starting with children ages 3-6.

What is the atrium and what happens in an atrium session?

The Atrium is a place of prayer. A special and quiet place where we work with God's teachings and listen and talk to God. In the Atrium, children hear scripture stories and watch them acted out with simple materials. They learn songs and prayers and are encouraged to "work" quietly with meaningful materials, leading them into deeper relationship with God and greater participation in the Liturgy.

How can you help?

We are bringing CGS to Saint Brigid Parish! All items in the atrium are child sized, so we need small desks and chairs, low tables, and bookshelves. Woodworkers, crafters, and artists are also needed. The materials in the atrium should be made by the community, and guidelines are provided.  If you’d like to help financially, you may order items from our Amazon wish list and/or make a monetary donation to purchase specific materials.  All donations are greatly appreciated.

If you are interested in helping with this new ministry or are interested in having your 3-6 year old child attend, please contact Gayle.
